Written by Karl Beckham

Sometimes you will see an experienced veteran car salesman hit a sales slump that they just can’t shake or a new car salesman hit a slump and they don’t know why. When the new salesman came out of their car sales training they followed their training instructions to the letter and started making car deals right and left. Same thing with the veteran, they have been selling cars for years.

Both the new car salesman and the car sales veteran from time to time will find themselves in a car sales slump. They start getting bored with the same routine they start to think that they can shortcut the steps of their auto sales training and save some time. They are choosing the fresh ups they take by looking and sizing up their customers. Their sales start slipping and their closing ratios are taking a nose dive. It is often called getting to smart for their own good. Instead of following the lessons of their training and prior experience they are changing the selling system. There are 3 car salesman tips below that need to be followed in order to build a good foundation to sell cars.

#1 Basic Car Salesman Tip: Cherry Picking Ups

The practice of cherry picking is when the car salesman that thinks they can determine the credit status or buying likelihood potential of a customer by looking at them. Then they will decide if they are going to wait on that customer or let another salesman help them. The downside of cherry picking is that customers will often dress down and intentionally try to look less desirable as a defense strategy. They want the salesman to think they that they don’t have money or credit so that they won’t be pressured. I have seen many sales people miss out on very nice commissions by cherry picking. The moral of this car salesman tip is that you can’t pick out the buyers and the lookers by looking at them. The more people you help the more you will sell; it’s all about the numbers.

#2 Basic Car Salesman Tip: First Meeting

The basic meet and greet is the first meeting of the car salesman and the potential car buyer and a very critical step to selling cars. You know what they say about first impressions and it’s not any different when it comes to being a car salesman. Introducing yourself in a prompt professional manner is the proper thing to do, but I you are dressed poorly or smell like an ashtray you stand a good chance of making a bad first impression. You must look, act, dress and speak like a professional to make a good impression. This and other car salesman tips will get you off to a strong start.

5 Alternative Fuel Types You May Not Have Heard Of PDF Print E-mail
Written by Michael Moss

The BP oil again brings some of the danger of petroleum based fuel to the forefront. During the last decade there have been an onslaught of changes to the automobile industry. Many gasoline stations mix in ethanol in with standard gasoline to reduce emissions, hybrid cars such as the Prius have begun to dominate the market when purchasing a new vehicle. America is also about to see the next wave in electric cars and improved hybrids, the Chevy Volt and the Nissan LEAF will be available soon; Tesla Motors, a company devoted to all-electric cars, grows larger every day. But for those who still have an eye towards the future, here are 5 other alternative types of fuel for automobiles.

Hydrogen is the most abundant element in the galaxy. If it can properly extracted it can be used to fuel an internal combustion engine, or it placed in a fuel cell to power an electric motor. Nearly every major automobile manufacturer is researching hydrogen powered cars. However, due to the large costs associated with drawing usable hydrogen from non fossil sources, most companies say that mass-market hydrogen powered cars won't be available for several decades.

Natural Gas is a substance used every day in households across the world. In cars, Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) or Liquid Natural Gas (LNG) is used to fuel an internal combustion engine. There are currently over 11 million Natural Gas Powered vehicles in the world, with the majority in South America and Southeast Asia. Many of these cars are regular gasoline engines that have been refitted to use natural gas exclusively or many cars can use both types of fuel. In the U.S. Many buses use this technology. Honda has released the Honda Civic GX, which is the only natural gas powered car available in the US. Other car companies have released cars powered by Natural Gas in other countries. Natural Gas is still a fossil fuel, but natural occurring bio gas from waste water and landfills can be easily mixed into natural gas. The biggest obstacles facing natural gas powered cars are the large amounts of space the fuel requires and creating a distribution system across America.

The Tata Nano, believed to be the World’s Cheapest Car was launched on January 10, 2008 in New Delhi, India. This is a small, affordable city car which was primarily aimed at the Indian market. The Nano was Ratan Tata’s dream project.

Not just the cheapest, the Nano has also been dubbed as the ‘people car’. The first batch of cars, as promised, has and is being delivered at Rs 1 Lakh. The second batch and thereafter, however, will bear the slightly heavier price tag. Of late, the Nano was the topic of discussions because of the fire accidents. Even after passing the stringent safety tests, the car appeared to be having flaws that were hard to determine. Luckily, a second test was conducted and all seemed fine with the Tata Nano. Though there’s no recall, the car maker will be replacing the fuel pipes as an advanced safety measure.

The conceptualization of the Nano was a highly refined idea. Stressing on innovation and a new design outlook, the Nano was designed at the Institute of Development in Automotive Engineering, Italy. Ever since the car hit the Indian roads, it has been a matter of talk and the Nano has enough fame. The little car is available in Standard, Deluxe, and Luxury variants. The Deluxe and the Luxury variants have the AC and body-coloured bumpers. Alloy wheels, fog lamps, and ICE are the other features of the Luxury variant. Also to be noted, the Nano has 21 per cent space inside it and 8 per cent smaller exterior compared to the iconic Maruti 800.

The Tata Nano is 3.1 m long, 1.5 m wide and 1.6 m high. Though small, the ground clearance is ample and the Nano can easily manoeuvre on crowded city roads too. After tasting success of the world’s cheapest car on the Indian road, the Indian car maker is thinking of bringing in an eco-friendly version of the Nano. The E-Nano, if launched, would again be the world’s cheapest electric car. The E-Nano is believed to have attached or side solar panels. Further, a hybrid Nano is also speculated to make its entry.
